Much like Anderson Silva, it truly is a pleasure to watch Jon Jones fight inside the octagon. This time taking on possibly his biggest task to date in the "crafty and elusive" Lyoto Machida. This was Jones' fourth fight of the year, having already stopped a raising star in Ryan Bader, and former light heavyweight champions, Shogun Rua and Rampage Jackson. But none posed a threat as big as Machida as many expect to be the one to stop the reign of Jones. Styles make fights and that echoed true in this fight. Between Jones' long reach and unorthodox and unpredictable fighting style and Machida's elusive fighting style anything could have gone down in this fight. Jones and Machida were easily fight of the night but the craziest moment of the night had to have happened in the fight between Frank Mir and Big Nog. This fight showed that when you get two of the most dangerous submission artists at heavyweight in the octagon together, the end result is nasty. And for Mir this would be the second time he's submitted someone in a high profile fashion. The fight between Tito Ortiz and Lil' Nog had a expected ending to it. Although Ortiz did look good in the beginning of round one, Nog was just too much for him. Will be interesting to see if Dana White puts together Ortiz/Franklin for Ortiz's final fight. This whole card was just brutal, from seeing Homminck getting KO'd in record time to seeing Lil' Nog beat on Tito to the point it looked as if he was about to tear up to the jiu jitsu war on the ground between Mir and Big Nog to the unbelievable ending between Jones and Machida. This was easily one of the better pay per views from the UFC.

For those who didn't see UFC 139 was an absolutely amazing event. Having said that I'm so used to UFC events having this strange trend of maybe having one to two events that are really worth buying (at least since 2009). That's why UFC 140 really took me by surprise by showcasing some really stellar fights, not just the fights being sold going up to this event.

The first fight of the night can be summed up in one phrase, "Don't blink!". Mark Hominick was coming off of his failure to catch the Featherweight title against Jose Aldo at UFC 129 and he was coming in against Chan Sung Jung, who is most noted for taking part in the last year's fight-of-the-year against Leonard Garcia. Now, when I say that this fight ends quickly, I'm not exaggerating. The victor of this fight currently holds the distinction of being tied for the fastest knockout in UFC history. So definitely pay attention to few short seconds that this fight lasts.

Claude Patrick vs. Brian Ebersole was really the only average fight of the whole main card, and even this wasn't that bad. It's a hard fought battle between two guys that goes the distance. While it is a close fight the crowd never gets fully invested for whatever reason and that almost always has an effect on my perception of a fight but that's the only really bad thing I can say.

Both Tito Ortiz and Antônio Rogério Nogueira had their backs against the wall coming into this fight. Both fighters were coming in off of loses in their previous bouts and it looked like both of their careers in the UFC were in danger. Thankfully both guys seemed to recognize this as they both came out of the gates guns blazing looking to knock the other out. Eventually one fighter lands several significant shots in the clinch that leads to a nasty display of ground and pound that ends in the first round. Being a fan of both men I was glad to see both fighters come out with as much heart as they did but the ending leaves something of a resounding question for one man's career.

Back in 2008 Frank Mir put on what was arguably his best performance ever against Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira in a fight that he captured the interim Heavyweight title in. It was later revealed that Nogeuira had been seriously ill shortly prior to this fight so the question on most fans' minds was what would happen if a healthy "Minotauro" took Mir. Well, the question was answered outright during this fight as both men were coming off of wins in their last performances and were looking to put an end to the debate. I had a sneaky feeling that this fight might be good but the fact is this fight is going down as not only one of my favorite fights of the year, but ever. There's next to no feeling out process and these men come out to hurt each other. While being even for a small bit eventually one fighter gets rocked hard and it looks as if the fight is about to end when one of the best comebacks in the sport occurs. I won't spoil it for anyone but this fight had me jumping up and down and absolutely screaming for joy. I'm a big fan of both fighters so I wasn't rooting for any one fighter in particular but the finish is absolutely heinous, in the best sense of the word. The finish will have you cringing but begging to watch over and over. Simply put, an amazing fight.

There's a saying in MMA that, "Styles make fights". This may not ring more true for any other fight than the main event of this particular card. Jon Jones, the defending champ has one of the most explosive and unique styles to grace the eight-sided cage and in equally unique fashion there is Lyoto Machida, a former Light-Heavyweight champion whose karate style has baffled all but one man. Jones has had a relatively easy time in his UFC career defeating some very dangerous fighters with little to no effort. Frankly, he's a scary dude but it was strange to see just how similar Machida has done the same to high level competition. Thankfully this isn't one of those fights that has an awkward feeling out process where both men just stand around waiting for the other person to do something to react off of. Instead Machida changed up his typically counter style to a slightly more aggressive version and Jones in typical fashion attempts to control the mid-distance with his mix of range and creativity. I was kinda surprised at the pace but the fight plays out more along the lines of the strikers match with constant motion and that ever present feeling that the fight could end at any moment. This is definitely an even and exciting fight with both men showcasing their particular strengths before the fight is finished in the second. Honestly, this fight was so much fun to watch I would love to see a rematch between these two because even though the victor wins in scary fashion this fight looked like it could really go either way.

UFC 140 was an event that I was looking forward to for months ever since I heard Frank Mir would be fighting Nogueira for a second time and luckily the event did not disapoint. This event is a definent must buy for any UFC or MMA fan.

Starting with the Prelims the bouts that I watched when they were re-aired during the main card were very good. Soszynski had a nice KO against Pokrajac. Philippou dominated Hamman and landed very acurate clean punches to knockout Hamman in an impressive manor, and Hallman submitted Makdessi with a rear naked choke. All three of these prelims were fun to watch and they all ended in the first round.

As for the main card UFC fans could not wish for a better card.

Chan Sung Jung tied the record for fastest KO in combat sports history with 7 seconds. Todd Duffee was the first fighter to set the record at UFC 102. When I watched the match i looked away for a moment and missed the fight, I was lucky that they replayed the knockout. Very Impressive performance by Chan Sung Jung

Ebersole vs Patrick was a good match when it came down to technique, but it was not a very entertaining fight, Ebersole ended up getting his third UFC victory with a decision over Patrick.

Ortiz came out fast in his third fight this year, in the beggining he seemed to be doing pretty well but Nogueira came back a started to overwelm Ortiz. A great knee by Nogueira to Ortiz's ribs brought him down and it was at that point that Nogueira came in with the ground and pound. Ortiz did what he could to fight back but it wasnt enough, Nogueira ended up getting a TKO against Ortiz.

In the co-main event Frank Mir's victory can be called nothing short of the best submission in UFC history. Mir became the first man to ever make Nogueira submit, and in their first fight back at UFC 92 Mir became the first man to ever score a KO victory against Nogueira. Nogueira landed a few good shots on Mir against the cage and brought Mir to the ground. Nogueira could have finished Mir but he went for a arm to try and submit him. Mir rolled Nogueira into a Kimura and had had his arm bent back so far that you saw Nogueira's shoulder pop just before he tapped. Mir ended up breaking the arm of Nogueira.

For the fourth time this year Jones impressed UFC fans with his submission victory over Machida. In the first round Machida showed some pretty good striking, he even managed to temporarly rock Jones with a few good strikes. The second round is were the match changed. Jones got Machida to the ground and landed an elbow the gave Machida a nice gash above the eye, after the doctors checked it out and the match resumed, Jones got a standing guillotine on Machida while in the guillotine Machida passed out against the cage earning Jones his fourth victory of the year, three of wich were against Light Heavyweight legends.

These bundle packs are at once both good and bad. While the value of getting two pay-per-views typically looks good initially this is typically due to the fact that both pay-per-views did not live up to the expectations had of them. While this is partially true of this particular release it's definitely a strong release for a few good reasons.

BJ Penn taking on Nick Diaz had all the makings of fight of the year. The hype on talent alone was ridiculous and I can safely say that this fight delivered on that at least. The first round was pretty evenly matched although one fighter looked to be landing the harder shots. Then in the second something of a 180 occurred and the one fighter ended up putting on a fantastic performance in what looked like a definite finish but it continued into the third with very similar results. I was definitely impressed with one fighter and kinda sad to see how the other performed. Overall a decent fight but nowhere near enough to save this pay-per-view.

Chris Leben and Mark Muñoz made history by fighting in the first five round non-title bout in UFC's history. Given that those were the circumstances the fight doesn't play out that way. With heavy hitters such as these two I wasn't expecting anything past three rounds so I wasn't entirely surprised to see it end before hitting the the typical championship rounds. Although the ending was not to my liking the fight itself was just as I had hoped, a fun all out brawl with both fighters landing some absolutely brutal shots on each other. The victor made a strong case for entering the top middleweights in line for a title shot at Anderson Silva.

I'll admit, UFC 137 sucked as a pay-per-view (my own opinion of course). The original main event was supposed to be Georges St-Pierre vs. Carlos Condit for the Welterweight title but St-Pierre sustained an injury two weeks before the event so they had to scrap it. Not only that but many of the fights on the main card were three round decisions that simply had no pop (especially the co-main event). With the exception of Penn/Diaz there was nothing really all that spectacular, although the fight between Mirko Cro Cop and Roy Nelson definitely had its fun moments.

Now UFC 138 was actually a really good event. Its main problem however comes from that fact that it has very little drawing power in terms of big name talents. Many fans will recognize Chris Leben from the first season of the Ultimate Fighter but most of the other fighters will probably go unnoticed to the casual fan. Unfortunately for a lot of people who dismissed this card missed out on all kinds of fun. Loaded with a number of great finishes (some of the best all year) this main card had just about every type of fight you could wish for. Definitely a good card to pack with the lackluster UFC 137, as it gives this bundle some needed quality fights.

Overall, not the greatest two events in the history of the sport but UFC 137 had some absolutely monumental moments (the retirement of two loved warriors) and the one of the best showings all year in just plain action from UFC 138. Definitely a bundle worth checking out but if you still feel unsure try and check out the events to decide for yourself.

Good for some fans but not for me, November 15, 2011

This is a collection of fights that occured between July 2010 and June 2011. It is a 20 disc set and shows Pay-Per-View fights, Fight Nights (free events original aired on Spike TV), and UFC Live (which originally aired on Versus network). It also includes some of the unaired prelim fights.

It also includes some bonus material like: "Best of Fight School", "Best of Rogan 1-on-1", and "Best of Unguarded"

While all of that sounds great, there are some downsides:
- For some reason the fights are not in chronological order. They are separated with all the PPV fights together, all of the Ultimate Fight Nights grouped together, and all of the UFC Live events together. This means you be watching a fight and in the analysis they are discussing how someone did in a fight you haven't watched yet.

- The other big drawback, and for me this was a deal breaker, not all the fights are shown. About 45 fights in all are not included in this package. I am sure it was a timing and space thing but I am personally am a "completionist"....and I want every fight.

As I said, it will be a great set for some and it does provide every title fight in the year as well as a lot of other great action...but it is not a complete set. For those that don't care about having it all, definitely purchase this product...for people like me, you may want to pass

I would love to own this, but UFC just looks too good in high def- why no BluRay release? I'd gladly pay the up-charge.

I would love to be able to support this product as I would love to see one of these released for every year, but I CANNOT buy something not in high def after spending $$$ on my TV just to watch UFC fights in the best quality available.

"Like" my review if you want to see a Blu release of this!
